Harbor Master Meeting, API and Tourist Boat Shipowners Administración Portuaria Integral Puerto Vallarta, committed to environmental conservation participated with the Port Authority past August 24 on the working meeting to discuss issues related to the management of waste water generated by tourist boats, operating daily on the marine terminal, to Bahía de Banderas beaches. For this purpose service providers were called by 7.2.530.014/2010 official letter issued by the Captain of the Port where the following points were discussed: • Port Captain raised the need for more serious measures to be taken for the proper waste water management by boat owners in terms of article 76 of the Law of Navigation and Maritime Commerce and the entire paragraph of Chapter VII of Law itself, referred to the "Prevention and Control of Marine Pollution. • API Vallarta exposed the environmental, economic and health impact caused by direct dumping wastewater to Mexican coasts, the applicable law in national waters, tourism, navigation and measures that could be taken to prevent contamination by this route. At this point, the fact that a water inlet header already exists where you can connect vessels to discharge their waste water with the support of a bilge pump was mentioned. It shall comply with regulations and necessary requirements to dump waste water into the municipal sewer. • Shipowners of tourist boats set up their position to support this cause and expressed their interest in supporting the ecological environment of the bay. Expressed also their concern about wastewater generation at the point of destination of the tour of the beach, for example those generated in restaurants and homes, where society and government could go beyond applicable regulations. As this meeting result, Port Authority, API Vallarta and Service Providers of tourist boats, agreed to the installation of compartments for receipt of greywater, the adaptation of their shots in the tourist boats in a reasonable period to be monitored month by month, by the maritime authority. Likewise, API Vallarta will analise charging a reasonable fee for providing the reception of waste water and cover the authorization, operation and maintenance of bilge equipment. ![]() ![]() |
